Therapy for Children

Watching Your Child Struggle Feels Terrible

You know something is off. You just don’t know how to help.

Your child is struggling, and watching it happen without knowing what to do is one of the hardest feelings in the world.

Maybe the meltdowns have you walking on eggshells, dreading the next explosion. Maybe school has become a daily battle, and the morning drop-off ends in tears (theirs, sometimes yours).

Or your child has become withdrawn or anxious in ways that feel new and alarming. Or something hard has landed on your family (a loss, a move, a divorce), and you can see it written all over your kid, even when they can’t put words to it.

And then there’s the guilt. The second-guessing. The 3 am Google spirals wondering if you’re doing something wrong, if this is just a phase, if it’s going to be okay.

You love your kid fiercely. You just need someone to help you figure out what to do right now.

Understanding What’s Driving Your Child’s Behavior

Children need support differently from adults, and so do their parents.

Kids don’t always have the words for what they’re feeling, so the behavior carries the message instead. What looks like defiance is often fear. What looks like withdrawal is often overwhelm.

A meltdown is often a child whose nervous system has maxed out, with no idea how to come back down.

Understanding what’s driving the behavior is what makes the difference between short-term fixes and lasting change.

How We Work with Your Child

At Live Up Therapy, our therapists meet kids where they are developmentally.

For children ages 0 to 5, we work with you and your child together because, at that age, the relationship between parent and child IS the medicine.

For kids ages 6 and up, we work with your child independently while keeping you closely involved.

Sessions aren’t just talking. They’re built around helping a child make sense of their inner world through connection, play, and age-appropriate work that fits their needs.

We help children navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, big life transitions, grief, low self-esteem, and the weight of growing up in a complicated world.

You Are an Important Part of the Process

As we support your child, you’ll never be left wondering what’s happening in the room. We keep you informed, involved, and equipped to support your child between sessions.

You are the most important person in your child’s healing. This is something we believe deeply at Live Up Therapy. No matter what your child is going through, you are their greatest resource.

Our job is to help you feel sturdy, supported, and equipped – so that you can be the secure base they need. We’ll help you understand what’s happening for your child, give you language and strategies that actually work at home, and walk alongside you through the hard parts.

When Calm Returns to Your Home

Mornings without the battle.

Bedtime without the meltdowns.

Your child walks into school without clinging to your leg.

The toddler who used to arch away is now melting into you because they’ve learned you’re safe, you’re coming back, and they’re loved.

Picture yourself feeling less reactive, more grounded. Knowing what your child needs before things escalate. A relationship with your kid that feels good. Genuine connection.

These aren’t distant fantasies. They’re the kinds of shifts families experience when they get the right support, and they start with one conversation.
